Intermittent fasting has always been a thing, I mean fasting is a thing in all of our lives, it’s not new. Every night when we go to sleep we are fasting. That’s why our first meal of the day is called breakfast because you are breaking your fast. Intermittent fasting is the same idea but longer. The most common method is the 16/8 method. Most people take out breakfast so most of their fasting hours are while sleeping, adding up to 16 hours of fasting, and 8 hours of eating. This is popular because this type of eating plan does not restrict the type of food you can eat, but restricts the time you can eat. It is a popular method because it is shown to lower body fat, and speed up metabolism.
I tried intermittent fasting during COVID lockdown. I did not find it too hard to do simply because I was not physically doing as much because we were not leaving the house, and because I was sleeping more hours than my regular day-to-day. When I started to go back to my regular schedule it was not sustainable for me with playing basketball and being so busy. If I stuck with it I would have had to rigorously meal plan, or I would not have been consuming enough calories for an athlete. So it seems like this type of plan would depend on the lifestyle that you have!
