Reflection on the film:
I thought this movie was so interesting, especially because this was the first time I have seen a school allow so much free play for teachers. As a PHE teacher, I think creativity and passion are so important. This movie went along well with my EPHE 764 class where we are discussing how students are a lot more into the content they are learning if they have some say in what they are learning. This was a similar theme in the movie however it was more freedom for the teachers. I agree that when teachers get to teach what they are passionate about, the students will end up getting more out of it. I also thought it was very interesting how they did an exhibition at the end of the year to show the parents and community what they had learned.
On the flip side, I still have a hard time understanding how students at this school may not learn the basics of some subjects that their fellow students at other schools are. I am actually not one for structured curriculums as this did not work well for me as a student, but I still have it ingrained in me that they might be missing out on important information.
The movie left me with the question of how much of what students are taught actually benefit them if they are not interested in it? If they are not interested in it as young students it is not likely they will pursue it as adult students.
